Open Question: Birthday Present for soon-to-be 13 year old girl/a few more friends?

This week is my best pal's birthday. She will be turning 13 and this is an idea I have for what to receive her: since her b-day is a schoolday, i will decorate her desk with balloons, wrapping bows, etc. Then, I will make her a card and also, I will receive a bag will a new sketch book ( she loves drawing) , color pencils, and other art supplies. For more ideas: My BFF is artistic and wears very unique clothes. She absolutely loves drawing and plays several instruments including the violin, clarinet, and viola. She is very smart and ahead in the class. Her favorite subjects are literature and math. Not very sporty. Girly enough not to be over. Any more ideas? Anyways, I have two more friends birthdays who are coming up: both in April. Both are guys and both are turning 14 years old. One is more sporty than the other. let's call him Jack. Jack is sporty and likes to workout. He is joining some football thing and listens to bands like Linkin Park and Hollywood Undead. He loves to eat and hang out. Not too fond of school. Aries. Also, he's pretty wealthy so nothing like cash or gift cards =) My other pal, let's call him Jim, is a little less atheletic. He swims though almost everyday. He loves every sports games and his favorite teams are the Dodgers and Lakers. He's very tall and gangly. He is built though like sort of muscular. Likes money but please don't suggest that as I am pretty broke >.> So, any ideas? Well, you don't have to answer every three but I prefer you help. Thanks anyways! People with most creative ideas receive the 10 points! glad answering!

Open Question: Would you like to read my story?

I am recovering from surgery and can't snooze because of the pain. When I think about my life, its been a long 19 years and I wonder how one would tell one's possess story. Heres how I did it, writing just off the bat with no planning on paper. Start. My name, is Shaun ** XXXX XX. Shaun means "God's Gift", my mum thought it fanciful, most spell it with a W, but the U stands for unique or a halved W. **, is my dad's surname, he works as a year-round-asshole, my parents are divorced. XXXX XX, is my chinese name, it represents my parents wish that I would mature quick and be neat. I was raised a Catholic. I was born in 1990 in a Singaporean hospital at 830am. I probably started living a couple of months back. 3 weeks after my birth, I was diagnosed with Bells Palsy. When I was a kid, I found out it meant I couldn't grin properly. A couple of years later, I realized that fact. I went to Bedestha Chapel's Kindergarten first. The vivid memories I had were of me flushing a singlet down a toilet bowl, my grandma calling a plumber and numerous fights with my younger brother. To my grandma, I was a poltergeist. To others, I was a cute kid. From my flashbacks, I realize that my mum also loved dressing me and my brother up in different colored but similar designed clothes. Primary school was Saint Stephen's Primary School. It was an every boys school that shifted thrice within two locations when I spent six years there. I was first bullied there, laughed at for my facial condition. My best pal, Wyman, had a condition that ostracized him, we became instant best friends till today. I competed and lost in a chess competition while there, the winner was a brilliant handicapped pal of mine called David. Like me, he too had a medical condition. Saint Stephen's was also where I shat my pants and learnt the basics of life and friendship. I was a fairly good student there. In my national exam, I was afflicted with nearly 5 different ailments: A profuse nosebleed during listening comprehension, insomnia with fever before English, Food poisoning after English and a prolonged fever after that. I did poorly, scoring 214/300. My secondary school was Saint Patrick's Secondary school. Within this stage of my life, I had a confusing, specific, glad moment involuntarily whilst at school. Later on in life, I found out what it meant: orgasm Saint Patrick's was affiliated to my primary school, as such, it was no surprise the bullies ended up in the same school at me. If their command of language was good today, they owe it in part to me for inspiring colorful insults. Yet, my soul drew strength from their jeers and I excelled exceptionally academically, topping the cohort for Literature in my second year and in English in my final year. I scored 11 points in my final year (the lower the better, 11 is an average A2), the top scorer in my school had 7 points , while 13 others had scores below 10. I nearly peed myself when I wasn't in the 13. When I was Fifteen, I had my first adore and crush, but she had no idea. While in church, she told me I should become a priest, people always did. That hurt, a lot, because Catholic Priests can't marry. I had arrive of age. I was Sixteen and my prospects looked great. I was confirmed as a Catholic and had John added to my name. Shaun, is an Irish derivation from John. I pre-enrolled into a Junior college, met and made some of the friendliest people in the world and thought I found a home. Only problem was I lived two hours away from school and the school's entrance points was 20. My mum felt I was too good for the school and moved me against my wishes to a better Junior College. I did poorly there, got retained and didn't excel over my potential. When I was 18, I realised that it was difficult for an unassuming person like me to be Catholic, so I gave it up. At 19 years of age, I was referred to a doctor who could cure my paralysis. It was an expensive operation because my family engaged the best doctor. Now, I have finished an operation, I sit with 1 clip on my face, 3 on my left leg and stitches in my mouth. Hoping, that it would every be worth it when I look back half a decade later. The End, Well technically not, but you receive it. I didnt write the story to be published, i wrote it off the bat and i dont think people actually try to summarize their lives. So i thought i gave it a try.

Open Question: Do you think Quentin Tarantino might have Aspergers Syndrome?

with his quirky personality and transcendent passion for the aesthetics of cinema, knowledge of possibly every movie ever made, his roaring imagination, his gift of creating iconographic imagery and adding the infinitely beyond perfect background music and unique pop culture references, the matchless unique way in which the flow of his movies bring back nostalgia for the pop culture of the past, you name it. Also how he was developing Inglourious Basterds for over a decade with ideas just roaring through his head the way paint roared through Van Gough, reportedly having written a draft that if filmed complete would make for an 8 hour movie. It sounds like when he's interested in something he can focus so intently that the whole world just dissapears around him.

Resolved Question: Gift ideas for band teacher?

I'm band president at my high school, and every year the senior band members put together some sort of unique gift for our band director, and then the relax of the band usually pitches in to help pay for it. our last concert of the year is coming up, and i'm drawing a blank as to what would be a nice thing to receive him. i've heard of gift certificates and photo albums before on other websites, but it just doesn't seem as personal as some of the past few year's gifts have been. any advice? Resolved Question: How can I improve this essay?

I have to write an essay for cheer tryouts and I was wondering if this is good or if you have any suggestions. I go to a catholic school, so I can't not talk about God, so please don't answer about that. Please help!! As a student of Saint John the Baptist Middle School, and a soon to be student of Juan Diego Catholic High School, I really try to have a strong relationship with God. I believe that it’s the most important part of life to act as we think Jesus would. I adore being a part of a Catholic community, and I feel that it has only ever made me strive to be the best I can be and strengthen my relationship with God and those around me. Throughout my years of school, I’ve always been really excited about learning new things and I try to keep myself open to new experiences. My favorite feeling is when I know I did well in school, or when I receive my report card back with good grades. I take a lot of pride in my work, and I like being organized. I adore my school, and I feel like it’s an extremely safe place to be. When I’m at school, I’m very comfortable with every my teachers and I always try to maintain that peace by setting good examples through my actions. I have always and will always be against the use of drugs and violence. Happily, I have never been in a situation where I have heard about drugs at our school, and I will try my best to keep it that way. I think that service is a very important part of life as a Christian. I have gone to Saint Joseph’s Villa to sing to the elderly with my choir class for service. I loved hearing every the people saying thank you and saw every the smiles through the halls. I think everyone would benefit from an experience like that. I also wish that next school year, there would be plenty of opportunities for service, especially as a cheerleader. I have always been interested in every kinds of sports, and I think that athleticism is one of the gifts God has given me. I’ve tried lots of different sports, like volleyball, basketball, and soccer, but my real passion is for dance. I think dance is an excellent way to express yourself and a great way to open yourself up to others. I am so thankful for my life, and I know that I am extremely blessed to go to such a great school. I’m getting a better education, and I can expand in my faith in a safe environment without ever having to worry about being judged. I do feel like the school could have more hands on projects for students, and would be very glad to think of some new ideas for student fundraisers. I adore every my teachers this year, and I feel like they every are very nice and glad to help you. I’m also very glad that our school is so completely diverse. I’m like learning about other cultures and I feel there’s no better way than learning from my peers. Compared to many other schools I’ve seen, I’d say that Juan Diego is the best place to learn about respect and selflessness. I would always wish to be called a leader for my fellow classmates, and I try my best to be seen that way. Of course in any school, you might be involved in situations where you want to do what everyone else is doing, even if it’s not the Christian choice. I would adore to be the girl everyone thinks is nice, caring, and unique, and the nice of person who doesn’t have to follow everyone else to be liked. Having people follow my actions feels great, and I would want to surround myself with people that I can learn from, and people who set a good example for me. I would want people to look that I try my best. I don’t just want to be the best I can be, but the best of the best. I know the areas in which I’m not as strong as others, but my life’s goal is to keep getting better and better through difficult work. Everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone learns from them. I’d wish that people would look at me and know, I’m not perfect, but that I try my best, and try to be a positive role model, in or out of school, even when no one’s watching. Oh my gosh, cease with the atheist crap! either help me or don't, and it's not my fault that you feel alone in your lives and you say theres no god to make you feel better. believe what you want, but don't push it down my throat. Thank you so much Deena Fisher! I just changed the structure so that i only talk about my techers once, i changed the I'm to I and once i looked back at the instruction sheet, i noticed that yes,i do have to write why im a great canidate, so thx!! You definately gave the best answer!!

Open Question: What do I get my BFF for her 17th b-day?

My best pal's -since birth, so it's kinda huge- surprise 17th birthday party is in two weeks and I want to receive her something unique. Last year, I customized a few images of both of us since we were babies until our latest pictures (every together) and a dress. Her friends got her a designer watch together. This year everyone's getting individual gifts, but I have no idea what to receive her. I heard some people will receive her clothes, others bags and accessories. Bear in mind I can't receive her anything like an "iPhone" or something. I'm not that high on budget. I just want to make it super simple and super special - nothing less than her sweet 16's gifts. Resolved Question: Is it wrong to go to my school dance?

Well for the month of February my high school is having a school dance. What makes this dance unique is that the chick is suppose to ask the dude.... my school calls it the Sadies. Well this girl I like really wants me to go, but just to hang out and have fun. This girl and I are not going out, but we are more then friends: we walk each other to our bus, hang out every the time, buy each other gifts just to look each other glad, etc... Well my problem is that before my pal and I "became a little bit more than friends," she asked her old pal to go with her to Sadies. Well this girl i like is still going with this dude to Sadies and i feel like it would be a bad idea for me to go. Trust me when i say that i really want to go and that she wants me to go too, but I can't stand the sight of her dancing with some other guy. I feel like if I stay home the thought of her dancing with this guy wont be as painful as seeing her dance with him, but on the other side I'm afraid that if I dont go, this guy might make a move on her. In your opinion, do you think that I should go to the Sadies or just stay home? Please state your reasons.

Resolved Question: What would be an inexpensive but unique birthday gift for a relative-by-marriage who is turning 75?

My mom's brother's wife is having a "surprise" birthday party in a few weeks. She is very popular in the community and a big crowd is expected. When I received the invitation, it indicated that "a basket will be close the door" which I interpret to mean "a gift is expected." I hardly ever look my family members since my uncle passed away and don't want to spend much over $10, but don't want to seem like a cheapskate in front of everybody, either. I would also like it to be something unique. Everyone seems to give gift cards nowadays which, to me, seems like an "easy-way-out" nice of gift. Since I hardly know her, I don't know what she likes or even what stores she may frequent. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Resolved Question: Going away gift ideas?

I live in Seattle, and my boyfriend has been attending my University on an exchange program from the Netherlands for almost a year now. We both adore soccer (or football, as he calls it haha) and as an out-of-the-blue gift, he gave me a personalized Dutch nike soccer jersey. He will be going back home in a little over a month, and I wanted to receive him something just as creative. Awhile back I had planned on getting him the neon green Sounders jersey, but now I'm afraid that it would look like I was copying him... I was thinking maybe an old-school Sonics or Seahawks jersey, or something REALLY American that he couldn't buy at home in Holland. So, I'm asking you lovely people... What are some of your ideas for a unique, creative gift that will remind him of his time in the US? Thank you sincerely! Amelia

Resolved Question: Am I the only one with this sense of humor.?

I am 15, highly intelligent and go to a gifted school. I do not believe in God, and my dad is a preacher. I know the Bible better than most devoted Christians. Do not try to harass me your conversion methods. My pal and I, both of the same age, have a very odd sense of humor. We giggle at things that only each other say, and quite sporadic events within our lives. I never giggle at normal things such as class clowns (because I am one and kids are easy to manipulate) and fat people falling. I will give you an example of something I laughed at hysterically. One day I was instant messaging my friends in a chat room and one of them sent a random mixture of letters like- ajsjhfhjs. So I told my pal that has my same sense of humor her mom probably was beating her head against the keyboard. Another instance of hysterical laughter was when I was coming home from wrestling practice, and my grandmother unknowingly hit the school sluts dog. These are just minor events that I can only think of on the top of my head but they truly show the only types of things I think are silly. I think about people dying just for the fun of it and find no wrong or heart-felt emotion from it. I am a unique kid and do not try to give me a bogus answer when I more than likely will degrade you for it. I want good concise answers from semi-intelligent people. I need an answer because I'm scared I'll live a boring life. It's not always violence I giggle at, sometimes it's just at people I look in the mall.

Open Question: How is everyone "special"? How do we find out what we are "special" at?

I mean, everyone says that everyone has something unique about them. Doesn't that mean none of us are special? And say that if there are a rare few that can be called unique, why are they always shunned and made fun of? I've always been fascinated with amazing gifts such as telekinesis, telepathy, pyrokinesis, so on so forth. But what do I receive for my "gift"? I can write. People tell me I'm a gifted writer. To me, that isn't very special. I have always had a talent for using reverse psychology. I can trick people and am a master at creating schemes. They usually go as far as playing pranks (playful pranks on my friends) or tricking people into believing they look things. I'm hated for that and people call me a witch every time I do an illusion. Honestly? I thought we were out of the 1800s. So please tell me your view on the topic. Do every humans have something special about them or not? If so, then how do they find out? Also, why do people refer to disabled people as "special"? One more thing. If you have any idea how being a dreaming schemer or a creative writer could be considered a gift in any way, please let me know. I honestly have no idea how I can put my "gift" to use.

Open Question: My friend is going to US - WHAT should I ask her to buy?

My pal is going to LA and San Diego in a few wks time, and she asked me what I wanted, so I was wondering if there's anything thats 'unique' to the US. It doesn't have to be a cheap souvenir, because I recently went to Asia and got her a nice gift which she really liked, so this thing I want will be like a gift as well, somewhere along the lines of $20 - $30? My pal and I are high school students in Australia by the way, so I want something that someone my age would like. Any suggestions would be helpful!!

Open Question: Ladies, what should I get my wife for her birthday?

I know I'm probably posting this in the wrong forum.. My wife's birthday is this Friday. She's turning 29. She's dealt with calling me her husband for 8 years now and I adore her more than ever. Just wondering what I can do to really go over the top? So far, I'm throwing down $100 for a gift card to her favorite spa. This will cover a full body massage and a few other things. Pedicure, Manicure --even some sort of seaweed wrap. Then I'm taking her out to dinner to a gastronomy restaurant, letting her pick her favorite wine, etc. (probably not the greatest idea after a massage, but I'll let her be the judge of that since it's her birthday) To me that nice of seems 'typical' for birthday gifts. I really want to express how much I adore her and I'm coming up short with really unique ideas. So Ladies, if it was your birthday, what would really be considered a unique gift that really makes you feel special?

Open Question: Is anyone else really disappointed that ZP Theart left DragonForce?

I found out that DragonForce no longer include ZP Theart. I cant believe that they are desiding to split over "insurmountable differences of musical opinion". Its obviously a cover for something else but I just think that they should have tried to work through it because they have been together for over 10 years and DragonForce will never be the same. Of course it could every be a way of getting free advertisement. Im hoping and expecting that they will receive back together because ZP Theart is a unique and gifted singer and DragonForce will be severely lacking without him

Voting Question: Any good Catholic supplies store in Dublin?

Hi, am studying in Dublin for a few months, and I wanted to purchase some souvenirs for my mom and aunts. I wanted to receive them an Irish Catholic gift. Perhaps a rosary or a tiny cross or figurine? I've been to a few places, but the selection was limited and the goods were a bit pricey. I've been to the store in O'connel road but there's not much selection there. Any recommendations as to where I can go for a good selection of unique catholic items at a reasonable price? Thank you~ @ Flying Mop I've been to the one in Abbey St. It's a nice store, but there weren't much to look: they mostly had books and the few goods they had were on the pricey side :/

Resolved Question: Really fun, unique gifts for friends?

My pal's birthday is coming u pand i want to receive her something really chilly. The price range would e around $30-$40, and some examples of stuff that I'm looking for, would be like a mini ice-cream maker, or something really fun like that (it could be a little more expensive than the price that I said, because I could combine with someone else to receive them it). thanks so much!!

Resolved Question: An American teen visiting Australia?

I'm participating in a study abroad program with my high school in a few months, where I'll be studying a semester abroad in Australia. I'll be staying with an Australian family, and I wanted to bring them some American gifts as a thank-you for letting me stay in their home. I was wondering what nice of foods or American things I can bring them to represent my country. I want them to be things that they wouldn't be able to find in Australia, so that it will be a unique gift. Does anybody know of any American candies or other things that you can't find in Australia? Someone once told me that Reece's Peanut Butter Cups have the black market trade value of a kidney in Australia (hahahaha) is that true? Also, being a California girl, what should I expect in Australia? I'm either going to be in Sydney, Brisbane, or Melbourne.
