Open Question: Any Gift ideas for a life partner of over 25 years ?

Today we are celebrating our marriage anniversary. We had ups and downs and faced some crisis in the past, but our marriage has been successful and we have four very special kids, very loving, caring and super intelligent. Indeed I have some complaints, but so does my wife. I can still imagine her in her 22nd year, tall, Slim and very innocent looking, when we saw each other for the first time in life. Yes it was an arranged marriage, which was quite common in Pakistan and still is. A unique, out of box, new idea will be greatly appreciated.

What should I receive my guy for christmas? Unique ideas, please! We've only been dating for a little while. We both adore the Boston Red Sox and baseball in general. Open Question: What can I give my friends instead of a flower as a small gift?

Our school musical is approaching, and we always give our friends a blossom or tiny gift on closing night. In the past people have given a carnation or mylar balloon, and sometimes candy. One time a girl gave out tiny flashlights that said "You light up the stage!". What can I give out this year that is inexpensive but cute and unique? I'd like to keep it below three dollars a person because I have a lot of people.

Open Question: Does this make you think dinosaurs lived with man?

Javier Cabrera Darquea came into possession of his first burial rock (from the Ica section of the country of Peru) when he was given one as a paperweight for his birthday. Ironically, he could recall his possess dad also possessing similar oddly carved stones that his family found in their fields in the 1930s. Dr. Darquea sought out the origin of his unique gift, in an effort to amass a collection of these unique stones, and eventually assembled over 11,000 of them. The rocks turned out to be ancient burial stones that the Inca Indians placed with their dead. Almost one-third of the stones depicted specific types of dinosaurs (such as Triceratops and Stegosaurus) and various pterosaurs. The type of art form represented by these stones, and their location, dated them to the time of the Inca Culture, c. A.D. 500-1500. How could these ancient Indians have known the anatomy of these creatures if they never had witnessed them firsthand? http://www.bible.ca/tracks/peru-tomb-rock-art-man-riding-triceratops.jpg every of this is very interesting since "modern" man's conception of dinosaurs did not start until the 1800's when the word dinosaur was coined (1841). These stones do not depict skeletons but live, active dinosaurs, most of whom are seen interacting with man. The obvious implication is that ancient Peruvians saw and lived with dinosaurs. Saurpod frills were discovered in 1992, yet they were being drawing correctly 2000 years ago. http://www.bible.ca/tracks/peru-tomb-rock-art-man-fighting-dipodocus.jpg big dinosaur tapestry- These textiles depict living dinosaurs as do their ceremonial burial stones and pottery, indicating that these awesome creatures were still alive at the time and ancient Peruvians saw them. http://www.bible.ca/tracks/peru-tomb-cloth.jpg "My first guess would be that the Incas uncovered a dino skeleton." If true how would they go about knowing exactly the correct texture to put on the dinosaurs on the stones? Look at them closely. http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/15 It is somewhere on this page explaining the whole thing. I do not feel embarrassed. Actually thank you for proving me wrong but ofcourse their is still plenty of other evidence out there. Thank you. I admit i found faulty evidence but like i have said there is still alot of other evidence that haven't been refutted.

Resolved Question: WhPlease, Help!! I'm so desperate - I need suggestions for a project theme!! D:?

Please, Help!! I'm so desperate - I need suggestions for a project theme!! D:? I have to spend $1 million dollars on my classmates. I can't spend anything on myself, only for others. I can only buy a max of 25 goods or services and no single item can be over $10,000. In order to prevent favoritism and ensure that the money is evenly distributed among my 22 classmates, everyone will receive the same 25 things. The cost of buying the good or service also includes tax and includes shipping if i'm ordering it from online. The good or service could also be an experience, such as a going to a concert or on a trip. No gift certificates/cards, stocks, bonds, or cash can be given as one of the 25 things. Finally, there has to be a theme to my shopping spree. So the way things would work out is this: i would pick 25 items and buy 22 copies of each so that each of my classmates could have their possess copy of the same item. In the end, each of my 22 classmates will have been given the same 25 items. For example, if i chose to buy a baseball as one of my 25 goods or services, i'd buy 22 baseball and give one to each of my 22 classmates. In every, the cost of buying those 550 items (25 items X 22 classmates) has to add up to $1 million. I wish to goodness that made sense. ^^;; The problem i'm having is thinking up a theme that would involve good and services expensive enough to spend every of the $1 million. I hate to be picky but the more unique, the better. Cars is too boring, and travel is so broad i'd still need an gimmick to go with it. PLEASE HELP!!!! DX AS REQUESTED HERE'S A ABRIDGED VERSION OF THE over: I need a theme that involves either goods, services, or activities that would cost a lot to buy. For example, the theme CARS could mean that i would buy a whole bunch of sports cars, which are expensive. :D Hopefully that makes it easier.

Resolved Question: What do you think of this (Once you've read it you'll agree with me that it's messed up)?

I know it's long but stick with it, you won't regret it. The first 3 or so paragraphs drag on. Once you're done you'll agree with me it's messed up. IF YOU PLAN TO ANSWER YOU HAVE TO READ IT every FIRST Body Rituals among the Nacirema The anthropologist has become so familiar with the diversity of ways in which different people behave in similar situations that he is not apt to be surprised by even the most exotic customs. In fact, if every of the logically possible combinations of behavior have not been found somewhere in the world, he is apt to suspect that they must be gift in some yet undescribed tribe. The point has, in fact, been expressed with respect to clan organization by Murdock (1949: 71).[2] In this light, the magical beliefs and practices of the Nacirema gift such unusual aspects that it seems desirable to describe them as an example of the extremes to which human behavior can go. ¶ 1 Professor Linton [3] first brought the ritual of the Nacirema to the attention of anthropologists twenty years ago (1936: 326), but the culture of this people is still very poorly understood. They are a North American group living in the territory between the Canadian Cree, the Yaqui and Tarahumare of Mexico, and the Carib and Arawak of the Antilles. Little is known of their origin, although tradition states that they came from the east.... [4] ¶ 2 Nacirema culture is characterized by a highly developed market economy which has evolved in a wealthy natural habitat. While much of the people's time is devoted to economic pursuits, a big part of the fruits of these labors and a considerable portion of the day are spent in ritual activity. The focus of this activity is the human body, the appearance and health of which loom as a dominant concern in the ethos of the people. While such a concern is certainly not unusual, its ceremonial aspects and associated philosophy are unique. ¶ 3 The fundamental belief underlying the whole system appears to be that the human body is ugly and that its natural tendency is to debility and disease. Incarcerated in such a body, man's only wish is to avert these characteristics through the use of ritual and ceremony. Every household has one or more shrines devoted to this purpose. The more powerful individuals in the society have several shrines in their houses and, in fact, the opulence of a home is often referred to in terms of the number of such ritual centers it possesses. Most houses are of wattle and daub construction, but the shrine rooms of the more wealthy are walled with rock. Poorer families imitate the wealthy by applying pottery plaques to their shrine walls. ¶ 4 While each family has at least one such shrine, the rituals associated with it are not family ceremonies but are private and secret. The rites are normally only discussed with kids, and then only during the period when they are being initiated into these mysteries. I was able, however, to establish sufficient [504 begins ->] rapport with the natives to examine these shrines and to have the rituals described to me. ¶ 5 The focal point of the shrine is a box or chest which is built into the wall. In this chest are kept the many charms and magical potions without which no native believes he could live. These preparations are secured from a variety of specialized practitioners. The most powerful of these are the medicine men, whose assistance must be rewarded with substantial gifts. However, the medicine men do not provide the curative potions for their clients, but decide what the ingredients should be and then write them down in an ancient and secret language. This writing is understood only by the medicine men and by the herbalists who, for another gift, provide the required charm. ¶ 6 The charm is not disposed of after it has served its purpose, but is placed in the charmbox of the household shrine. As these magical materials are specific for certain ills, and the real or imagined maladies of the people are many, the charm-box is usually full to overflowing. The magical packets are so numerous that people forget what their purposes were and fear to use them again. While the natives are very vague on this point, we can only assume that the idea in retaining every the old magical materials is that their presence in the charm-box, before which the body rituals are conducted, will in some way protect the worshiper. ¶ 7 Beneath the charm-box is a tiny font. Each day every member of the family, in succession, enters the shrine room, bows his head before the charm-box, mingles different sorts of holy water in the font, and proceeds with a brief rite of ablution.[5] The holy waters are secured from the Water Temple of the community, where the priests conduct elaborate ceremonies to make the liquid ritually pure. ¶ 8 In the hierarchy of magical practitioners, and below the medicine men in prestige, are specialists whose designation is best translated as "holy-mouth-men." The Nacirema have a OK it clip off, one second The Nacirema have an almost pathological horror of and fascination with the mouth, the condition of which is believed to have a supernatural influence on every social relationships. Were it not for the rituals of the mouth, they believe that their teeth would fall out, their gums bleed, their jaws shrink, their friends desert them, and their lovers reject them. They also believe that a strong relationship exists between oral and moral characteristics. For example, there is a ritual ablution of the mouth for kids which is supposed to improve their moral fiber. ¶ 9 The daily body ritual performed by everyone includes a mouth-rite. Despite the fact that these people are so punctilious [6] about care of the mouth, this rite involves a practice which strikes the uninitiated stranger as revolting. It was reported to me that the ritual consists of inserting a tiny bundle of hog hairs into the mouth, along with certain magical powders, and then moving the bundle in a highly formalized ser series of gestures.[7] ¶ 10 In addition to the private mouth-rite, the people seek out a holy-mouth-man once or twice a year. These practitioners have an impressive set of paraphernalia, consisting of a variety of augers, awls, probes, and prods. The use of [505 begins ->] these objects in the exorcism of the evils of the mouth involves almost unbelievable ritual torture of the client. The holy-mouth-man opens the client's mouth and, using the over mentioned tools, enlarges any holes which decay may have created in the teeth. Magical materials are put into these holes. If there are no naturally occurring holes in the teeth, big sections of one or more teeth are gouged out so that the supernatural substance can be applied. In the client's view, the purpose of these ministrations [8] is to arrest decay and to draw friends. The extremely sacred and traditional character of the rite is evident in the fact that the natives return to the holy-mouth-men year after year, despite the fact despite the fact that their teeth continue to decay. ¶ 11 It is to be hoped that, when a thorough study of the Nacirema is made, there will be careful inquiry into the personality structure of these people. One has but to watch the gleam in the eye of a holy-mouth-man, as he jabs an awl into an exposed nerve, to suspect that a certain amount of sadism is involved. If this can be established, a very interesting pattern emerges, for most of the population shows definite masochistic tendencies. It was to these that Professor Linton referred in discussing a distinctive part of the daily body ritual which is performed only by men. This part of the rite includes scraping and lacerating the surface of the face with a sharp instrument. Special women's rites are performed only four times during each lunar month, but what they lack in frequency is made up in barbarity. As part of this ceremony, women bake their heads in tiny ovens for about an hour. The theoretically interesting point is that theoretically interesting point is that what seems to be a preponderantly masochistic people have developed sadistic specialists. ¶ 12 The medicine men have an imposing temple, or latipso, in every community of any size. The more elaborate ceremonies required to treat very sick patients can only be performed at this temple. These ceremonies involve not only the thaumaturge [9] but a permanent group of vestal maidens who move sedately about the temple chambers in distinctive costume and headdress. ¶ 13 The latipso ceremonies are so harsh that it is phenomenal that a fair proportion of the really sick natives who enter the temple ever recover. tiny kids whose indoctrination is still incomplete have been known to resist attempts to take them to the temple because "that is where you go to die." Despite this fact, sick adults are not only willing but eager to undergo the protracted ritual purification, if they can afford to do so. No matter how sick the supplicant or how grave the YOU KNO WHAT JUST READ IT ON THE WEBSITE https://www.msu.edu/~jdowell/miner.html When you are done say Nacirema backwards. I myself am a Nacirema sorry KNOW

Resolved Question: How fast can you read this page?

"In the spring of 1781, on the upland plains outside the Inca capital of Cuzco, a tall man watched as his wife, tiny kids and closest friends were hacked to death. Then it was his turn. His tongue was clip out, and each of his arms and legs was tied to a horse. When the signal was given they were loosed, bolted, and pulled his body apart. Jose Gabriel Condorcanqui was executed by the emissary of the Crown, the Visitador, Jose de Areche, for leading the most dangerous rebellion against the rule of the Spanish Empire in two hundred and thirty years. A devout, educated half-indian, Condorcanqui had been recognized by the Spaniards as Marques de Oropesa, a title acknowledging descent from the old Inca ruling family of Peru. Suddenly styling himself the second Tupac Amaru--the Gifted One, after the most famous of the last native emperors, also known as Manco Inca, who was himself put to death in 1574 as leader of an uprising--the new rebel had seized a corregidor (a Spanish governor) and had him killed. Dressed in a blue velvet suit bordered with gold, an embroidered surplice, a red velvet cloak and a three-cornered cap, and wearing an image of the sun around his neck, this self-styled reincarnation of the Inca Sun King had led an uprising of several hundred thousand Qechua, Aymara and Araucanian Indians in a lynch war against the whites. He had laid seige to Cuzco, in a restaging of the ten-month investment of that city by 160,000 Indians in 1537. But Spanish cavalry, with the help of 60,000 militia, had eventually crushed the uprising and Condorcanqui had been betrayed. The brutal suppression of the revolt suggested that Spanish rule was as solidly entrenched as ever. Less than half a century later, Spain's empire had vanished without trace, as had Portugal's dominion over Brazil. In fact, the collapse of Iberian domination of America was astonishingly swift, from its beginning in 1810 to the last insurrection in 1824. Like its founding by Cortes, Pizarro and Almagro, the liberation of the Spanish Empire was primarily the work of a handful of remarkable men, every of them exceptional military commanders. To the observant, the cracks and fissures running through the monolith were apparent decades before the end. A unique combination of circumstances was to expose them--the wave of radicalism that brought about the American and French Revolutions, the terminal decadence of the Spanish court below Charles IV and Ferdinand VII, and the destructive havoc wrought by Napoleon upon the old order across Europe at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Yet the whole process of disintegration might have been reversed or at least arrested for decades, had it not been for the leadership displayed by the seven men who are the subjects of this book." (page one of "Liberators" by Robert Harvey). This page took me a minute and a half. How quick did you read it? Am I slow reader?
